Happy Feet header change

It is just a perfect timing for another header change. Yesterday was the last day of Syawal 1427H, meaning the end of Raya already. Furthermore, I got sick with that Kak Pah’s raya song. It started to annoy me, and I guess it annoys other people who visited this blog too.

Don’t really have an idea on what to put for the header, but several days ago, I came across Happy Feet’s website with this cute penguin (Mumble the name) dancing. So here it goes, Happy Feet theme for the header change this time.

I haven’t watched the movie yet. Perhaps I will this weekend.

Selamat Hari Raya Aidilfitri 1427H

Yay! Today will be the last day I work before I will be on 1 week Hari Raya leave. Tomorrow, I will be taking flight back to my hometown. The “Raya” mood is all around, so thinking of bringing the mood to my blog too.

I guess it’s time for another template header change. I spent almost 4 hours finishing this header. Phew.. Finish at last.

Well. Just one final thing to be prepared before I “balik kampung”. This photo is self-explainatory I guess. There’s no need for me to elaborate more why this photo is here.

Ramadhan Mubarak! header change

How time flies. It feels just like yesterday that I blog about the coming of Ramadhan and how I was crazy blogging about buffets that I went, and food that I bought for fast breaking and sahur.

And it is the time that we will face the new Ramadhan for the year of 1427 Masehi. Alhamdulillah, this will the 20th Ramadhan that I will be fasting in (I started fasting at my age of 9 years old).

Well, that Merdeka template header needs replacing. Just managed to find a little time between my busy schedule in office to replace the header with the new one as follows:

Merdeka template header change

This is really a quick one. Merdeka day is just around the corner. Went on the internet earlier to seach for a nice Merdeka flash greeting card, but to no avail. Then decided to design it my own then.

Search for flash Malaysia flag on the internet, and I end up at this URL – http://www.national-flags.com/. That’s really a cool site. It has lots of animated country flags, done using flash.

Then downloaded the Text-Osterone software from http://www.verticalmoon.com/ to do that text effect.

Arranging all together in Macromedia Flash, and this is the end result. Pretty plain as I’m not a computer artist, but this will do for my template header change this time.

I’m away on vacation

April Fool Template

April Fool is just around a corner. I just decided of doing another round of template changes. Got a bit bored with my previous template already. It’s not really a total template revamp, but as before, it’s the template header change.

There were a few time, when I changed my template, people asking me on whether I do the header myself. Well, the answer is YES and NO.

YES I create the header file myself and format it so that it fit in my blog template. NO I didn’t design the banner. I usually steal it somewhere and modify it with my bits and pieces. I am not computer artist that can produce something this beautiful. But I am computer enthusiast. So just apply a little of hacking skills, then you get things done.

So this entry will illustrate what processes that I usually go before I have my template changed, errmmmm well, my template header changed.

For any occasion, the best place that you can go to find a beautiful flash file for the season in electronic greeting card website. This time, I went to 123 Greetings website. Voila. It has a dedicated section on April Fool. After browsing around, I have found the flash animation that ticks my hearts.

Without further ado, I view the greeting card. Well. It’s really nice. Using Firefox media browser from Page Info dialog, you can browse the list of the media of the current page that you are viewing. That flash animation is a .swf type of file. By looking into the list, I saved the .swf file of that greeting card.

The next part is where it started to get a bit dirty. The .swf file can be think of as a compiled program already. In order for you to to be able to edit what is inside, you have to reverse engineer so that the source file is produced out of it. Once you have raw source file, you can do anything to it.

At this stage, I’m using Sothink SWF Decompiler. This this software does is, it opens .swf file, and reconstruct .fla file from it.

Once you have .fla file, you can do anything with it. So I use Macromedia Flash to edit it. Here, you need to be familiar with Macromedia Flash, things like layer, frame, shape, tweening and action script. I’m not pro myself with Macromedia Flash too. But little – little can la.

So, I just put my lacking creativity here to remove unwanted shapes and unwanted frames from the file. There are also several scenes. Usually, I just keep the last one, the part that repeated over and over.

After I’ve done with the editing, here is my final look.

So after exporting this back to .swf file, it’s time to place this into the template. With a simple math of finding the width and height of several DIVs in pixels, I managed to fit in this flash into my template.

And that’s all about it.

Bubble Bear template change

After a week of my last template changes, it’s time for another round of template change again. The theme this time is HAPPY!!!

I hope that everybody is happy, where the true is, I will upset my blog visitor with 800×600 screen resolution. Yeap. My blog template is no longer 800×600 resolution friendly. You have to at least using 1024×768 screen resolution.

The main reason why the template width is greater that 800px is the enlargment of the posting text

from 450px to 500px. Along with this, I also lenghten the sidebar editable region from 190px to 210px.

Why there is a need for 500px in the posting text

Previously, if you see the photos that I uploaded together with the blog entry, the width of the image is always the same as the width of the entry text

(i.e. 450px previously).

And you probably know that I’m using Flickr as my online blog photo storage. Flickr has an option where you can post the photo straight into your blog.

When a photo is uploaded to Flickr, below is an example of the list of available sizes that you can use.

Noticed the medium size? Medium size will always have the width of 500px. So previous, since the posting text

is 450px in width, there is always an additional work to me to resize the photo to 450px width, upload it to blogger and us it as a display image.

Now, posting text

is 500px. Meaning, after I publish a photo from Flickr, I can use it right away without I need to upload seperate image for display of the width matches the width of the posting text

See the reasoning? No? Just take it as it is. So, my blog visitor with 800×600 screen resolution, be happy ok. Just bare with the scroll bars that you will see.

M’re Goes Dirty

Once again, the header of my blog template has changed again. I made this template changes in tribute to the 2 cockroaches that I killed in the past 2 weeks.

My heart is filled with gentleness in nature (people who knows me can tell. hehehehe). I have voilence, and as a matter of fact, I hate it so much. I very hate those killings that I see on the television. I hate to see things get killed. Anyway, this is already on the bigger scale. Lets go to the smaller scale hatred towards killing, shall we….

Whether you believe or not, all in my life, during Hari Raya Haji, I never been to the place where people slaughtered the cow. I don’t know, I just have this eerie feeling. It is not that I’m afraid of the blood, but I feel so pity looking at those alive and healthy cows had to end their lives at the tip of the knife. I can’t bare seeing those cows being slaughtered alive.

And shall we go to even smaller scale? A week and half ago (I think), while unpacking my stuff from the box, I found this very big cockroach. I couldn’t find my Ridsect Cockroach Killer, and I’m afraid the cockroach will run away. You know, cockroach can grows exponentially in number. I don’t want my new house is infested with cockroaches. I have no choice but to hit the cockroach, but I miss. The cockroach run like hell, very fast, faster that I ever see cockroach runs before. I chase the cockroach and give a second hit. I hit the bull, when I found out that cockroach is carrying an egg. No wonder. It tried to protect its egg. See. Even cockroaches take a good care of their eggs.

And 3 days ago, another cockroach came out from the bedside drawer. This time I have Ridsect nearby already. Without further ado, I spray the cockroach. But I feel guilty so guilty after that. I see that cockroach strugling like it in really deep pain. I not dare too look at the cockroach, but I can’t help it. Really. The cockroach really look at it is suffering big time from the pain. I keep thinking what if I’m at that cockroach place. I rather die quickly than has to suffer the pain for quite a long time. I end up hitting the cockroach with the book again, let it died quickly rather that it is suffering like that.

Well… That is one of the strange thing about me, that I myself don’t understand it.
