My New MacBook Air – the final toy for 2011
I’ve been eyeing on MacBook Air for so long, always thinking that it’s too expensive for a notebook. The 13th month pay will be out soon. I worked my ass out for the whole year, so I guess I deserved to enjoy from the little extra money that I will get soon.
In the evening of 18th December, I just don’t know what came into me, as I’m firmed this time that I will be getting MacBook Air 13-inch 256GB. So I went to Mid Valley since there are 3 places that I can get this – Machines Mid Valley, Machines Garden or Harvey Normal Mid Valley.
Frustratingly, none of the store have the stock for the MacBook that I’m looking for. I then quickly search the web for other nearby store that I can go, since it’s getting late and they will be closing soon. I gave a call to Smack Apple Reseller in Bangsar Village II – no stock. I then gave a call to Harvey Norman Ikano Power Center – no stock. Looks like my search for the new MacBook Air has to continue tomorrow.
So on 19th December at work, I list out all of the Apple Premium Reseller (Machines, Mac Studio, Harvey Norman) outlets, get the phone number and will start to call each of the outlet asking whether they have the stock for MacBook Air 13-inch 256GB.
The nearest one is Mac Studio Bangsar Shopping Village II. Upon picking up the phone, the guy that picked my call said that he will check. About 1 min later, he said that they have the stock of the model that I’m looking for. So after office house, here I am at Mac Studio Bangsar Shopping Village II.
After a brief period there, I’m coming home with a rather heavy paper bag. A few photos from the unboxing process below.
It’s time to accessorize my new purchase. Being made wholly from aluminum, the MacBook Air is very prone to starches. To carry it around, I need to have something that is soft that will protect the body of the MacBook Air.
The moshi muse 13 seems to be fitting this purpose for me. The microfiber inner lining seems to be very soft.
But after using the MacBook Air for several days, I still feel that I want something that will protect it further. I have a case with my iPad 2 in the past where the aluminum body got dented after the corner my iPad bumped to a hard surface. For this, I bought Speck SeeThru SATIN for MacBook Air.
It’s called SeeThru SATIN for a reason. First, it feels like you are holding a satin. Second, you can still see through this hard shell. If you look closely below, you will still be able to see the Apple logo on the body of the MacBook Air.
The reason why I’m getting MacBook Air instead of MacBook Pro is because of the slim form factor. While buying a hard shell for this for protection, I don’t want to compensate this fact, and I don’t want to add bulk to the MacBook Air when adding extra protection. And again, this Speck SeeThru SATIN for MacBook Air seems to fit this purpose.
There are a few color options, but the black one seems to catch my eye. Lets now dim the light and not using flash for this photo. The glowing Apple’s logo that you can see through from this hard shell is so beautiful.
It’s the new year eve. I happened just to spend the new year eve at Bukit Bintang area – “karaoke”ing through the night. Since I’m here, visiting Low Yat is the must, and across the street is Mac Studio. I came back home with another paper bag, but not so heavy as last time.
The first item is SteelSeries Qck Mini mousepad. I need a better surface for the thing that I’m buying next, which is Apple Magic Mouse.
The big MacBook Air’s trackpad is great. It’s so comfortable to use and very responsive. But there are things that using mouse of more comfortable to use – like editing a photo in Photoshop.
Actually, any wired USB mouse, wireless mouse or bluetooth mouse can be used, but with the Apple’s Magic Mouse image is featured in the mouse setting dialog, it makes you want to get the mouse from Apple’s instead.
And with using the Apple’s official mouse, you get to use the unique features and gestures – the thing that the Apple Magic Mouse is made for. Damn you Apple of making me to buy this expensive mouse. LOL
So behold my new MackBook Air, together with all the other accessories that I bought – microfier carrying bag, hard shell for protection, magic mouse and better surface for the mouse.
