Savour the best ‘Kampung Classics’ at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (the Centre) this coming Ramadan. The exclusive menu options carefully crafted by the Centre’s award-winning brigade of 51 Chefs offers visitors the chance to enjoy traditional and contemporary buka puasa fare served right in the heart of Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC).
 
In addition to its great location, the Centre will also offer guests a designated prayer room, prayer mats, sandals and on-site ablution facility for Muslims to perform their Maghrib, Isya’ and Tarawih prayers so that diners can comfortably perform their religious responsibilities before breaking fast.
 
“We aim to help our guests enjoy a fantastic Ramadan experience,” said Alan Pryor, General Manager, Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. “Similar to previous years we are focused on convenience, comfort and cuisine. All five of our kitchens; Chinese, Western, Cold, Pastry and Malay, have been certified halal by the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (JAKIM) since 2011, so Muslim guests can enjoy their Ramadan meal with added peace of mind.”
 
This year the Centre’s Ramadan offering is aimed at customers looking to organise private buka puasa banquets for 100 pax or above. This has allowed the Centre to focus on delivering excellent menus that offer extremely good value to guests.
 
According to the Centre’s Executive Chef, Richmond Lim, this year’s theme, ‘Kampung in the City’ will feature a host of Kampung favourites such as signature dishes Ayam Panggang Percik Gula Kabung, Dendeng Goreng Berlada, Ikan Pari Asam Pedas Ramadan, Nasi Briyani Kambing and Udang Goreng Bersama Kuah Pedas Kicap Manis.
 
Elaborating on the theme, Chef Richmond said, “this year’s signature dishes truly capture the essence of traditional Kampung cooking and our team really went back to their original roots when creating them. Guests can look forward to our ‘Chef Action Stations’ where local favourites such as mee goreng mamak, Penang char kuey teow, Hainanese chicken rice, assam laksa, mee curry Nyonya, prawn mee and wantan mee, chicken and beef murtabak, roti bom, roti jala served with chicken curry, dhall curry and sardine sambal will be available. Guests can also enjoy Chicken and Beef satay, wholesome signature bubur lambuk (rice porridge), and the staple of all Hari Raya gatherings, succulently-spiced rendang tok complete with nasi impit, ketupat and lemang.”
 
The menus also offer contemporary and international choices for guests looking for something a little different. Other options include Pita Kebab Arab Daging Cincang (Arabic-style minced meat kebab on pita bread), roasted fish Tikka, a range of Italian pasta made àla minute to each guest’s liking, Hyderabad Roast Lamb served with Pakistani Briyani rice and condiments and a wide selection of barbequed seafood infused with Thai flavours.
